Car Care Tips

To keep your car strong and healthy in the face of long traffic jams, do these 5 simple things.

1. Check the Engine Oil Level

By using a dipstick, vehicle owners must check the engine oil level every 2-3 weeks. Make sure the amount is still within the tolerance limit or between the upper and lower limits.

This is because the limited supply of fresh air in the engine room due to the hot air around the vehicle will increase the evaporation rate of engine oil. Especially for old vehicles and the cooling system is not working optimally.

2. Check the Battery Water

When stuck in traffic, the car engine will be idle for a long time, this requires the battery to always be in prime condition. The work of the electric fan and AC blower often drains the electricity supply in the battery. In addition to ensuring the condition of the alternator, the battery water level must also be monitored. Moreover, the temperature in the cabin makes the evaporation rate higher.

3. Cleanliness of the Air Filter

The impact on the decline in oil quality and fuel consumption makes vehicle owners need to clean the air filter more often. Especially if the vehicle often passes through dusty roads. So, cleaning the air filter no longer relies solely on service time. Replace it immediately if the air filter has turned black.

4. Cooling system (Engine Cooling System)

In addition to paying attention to the amount of radiator water in the reservoir tank, the cleanliness and condition of the AC condenser grilles and radiator must be fixed. If not, the heat release process will be disrupted and have a big impact on the overall performance of the vehicle.

5. Clean the Spark Plugs

The ignition components in the combustion chamber are also affected by the tendency for low engine speeds which are often experienced when stuck in traffic. In idle conditions, the ability of the spark plug or coil is not as great as when the engine speed is medium or high. As a result, imperfect combustion can easily occur and result in carbon buildup around the spark plugs. For that, there's nothing wrong with cleaning the spark plugs regularly or about once every two weeks on weekends so that the spark plug performance is always optimal. Replace when the spark plug electrodes are rounded.
